Resumes (continued)

Primarily, we focus on two types of resumes: Chronological and Functional.

Chronological  lists the last position first, then goes progressively backwards until the job obtained right out of school becomes the last one listed.  Employment history that is longer than 15 years can often be omitted in favor of a more detailed description of the most recent job(s).

Chronological resumes use job titles, company names, locations and dates.  The Chronological resume is the most widely accepted format.

But……if you are a non-earning parent or caregiver returning to the workforce, or a downsized employee with a large gap in employment history, or a worker who was forced to take a lesser or lower paying position in order to remain with a company, or an individual with many career or job changes in a short span of time, you might want to consider the Functional Resume.

The Functional Resume lists skills and abilities as well as accomplishments, but does not stress dates.  Prior work experience is mentioned as well as company names, but the focus is on what kind of experience the job-seeker has and therefore, what he or she can offer the prospective employer.

WE’RE OPEN MINDED.

We can also put together a Hybrid Resume.  This resume identifies attributes, qualifications, proficiency, and experience, but lists the chronological order of jobs towards the end, as opposed to the beginning as in the Chronological Resume.

We will advise you if a Chronological Resume can be worked up, or if a Functional or Hybrid Resume might be a better way to go.

For those of you searching in cyber-space, the Internet or Electronic Resume might be your choice.  Key Words and plain, unadorned text with a simple synopsis of your work experience and accomplishments make up the Electronic Resume.  If this one’s your option, we’ll make sure you can e-mail the top Fortune 500 companies with a resume that will captivate their interest.
